                  Education of the Girl Child

We are planning to shift our focus to the girl child education. The Covid-19 pandemic has hit our communities and we need to step up and think about the future generation. Young girls have been married off at an early age, they have been impregnated by their relatives and family friends, they have been rendered hopeless. KKOVC is stepping in to help these girls come back to school.  This new project is planned to kick off in 2022.

We are planning to start up a demonstration farm. This farm will have chicken, pigs, cows, goats, rabits, qualis and a fish pond.

For inspiration about  chicken please visit these youtube videos: http://goo.gl/PLp5OO and http://goo.gl/rcpgSR

We need to identify enough land to accommodate all these things. This land should be in a convenient location for easy access for the participants.

We are also planning to install hydroponics system. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil. This will solve the problem of some people not having enough land for farming.

For more information on this system, please check: http://goo.gl/3K1qx7 .

Another form of hydroponics will be for producing animal feeds using only water  such that animals have feeds the whole year round.

Here is an example of what we mean: https://goo.gl/p2WBr5

These women and youth groups will be able to save enough money to  start up a Savings and Credit Co-operative (SACCO) in the future.

KKOVC plans to install solar systems that will help the whole community. There is a shortage of power in the communities. Since KKOVC aims at adding value to the agricultural output, power is a basic necessity in realising this target. Value added products will enable communities earn more money from their products. People will now be able to meet the costs of their basic needs and to send their children to school.

KKOVC plans to provide safe drinking water to the communities. Leading a healthy life is vital for the families to work harder in their gardens and to look after their animals. Children will also be able to attend school.  Here is an example of how people still struggle in the 21st century to get their hands on safe drinking water. goo.gl/GtM1Gj
